Jubilee Shield - Qualifying Nights

St Bede’s RC Sports College hosted the qualifying nights of the Blackburn Primaries 7-a-side Jubilee Shield in the last two weeks – one of the oldest school tournaments in the country.

On qualifying night one teams were split into three groups with Group One consisting of The Redeemer, QEGS, Westholme and Longshaw. Group Two included Feniscowles, Shadsworth, Lower Darwen and St Anthony's. Completing the line up in Group Three were St Francis, the reigning champions, St Gabriels, Our Lady of Perpetual Succour and St James' Lower Darwen.

St Francis, The Redeemer and Shadsworth won all of their games to top their respective groups with Feniscowles also progressing thanks to being the best runner up across all three groups. The standard across all three groups was very high and comments from several teachers throughout the night were made on the quality of this years competitors, well done to all the children that took part.

On qualifying night two, 17 teams were split into four groups with Group One consisting of Holy Souls, St Barnabas & St Pauls, St Thomas' and Salesbury. Group Two included St Pauls RC, Audley, St Anne's and Wensley Fold. In Group 3 were, St Peter's RC, St Silas, Lammack and St Michael and St John's. Completing the line up in Group Four were Roe Lee, Cedars, St Luke & St Phillips and St Jame's Blackburn.

Qualifying out of the groups were Salesbury, St Pauls RC, St Michael & St John and St Jame's Blackburn. Again the standard was very high and all the children involved should be very proud of themselves.

These eight schools now go forward to the finals night, which will be held on the 5th November.  I'm sure once all eight schools go head to head we can expect nothing less than fireworks!
