Blackburn and Darwen School Games
Year 3 & 4 QuadKids
On Wednesday 11th June St Bede’s High School hosted the Year 3&4 QuadKids competition. 9 schools attended the event meaning around 90 children were showing off their athletic abilities. The schools used their Sports Premium money to attend this and the other athletics events held this year.
St Cuthbert’s of Darwen claimed the gold this year in a fantastic afternoon of athletics where the lead swapped hands on many occasions. QuadKids is an exciting athletics initiative which gives more children the opportunity to participate in, and enjoy the benefits of athletics. It includes the core athletics’ disciplines of running, throwing and jumping.
QuadKids is a team based quadrathlon competition where each athlete does a sprint, a longer run, a long jump and a throw. A total of nine teams of five boys and five girls competed in 60m sprint, 400M run, standing long jump, and vortex throw. Points were accumulated over the afternoon and in the end St Cuthbert’s amassed the highest point score of 1233 beating The Redeemer, who claimed the silver medal, with a score of 1199 and last year’s champions Lower Darwen took the bronze with a score of 1134.
Unfortunately this event no longer qualifies for the Lancashire Youth Games. However a massive congratulations goes out to St Cuthbert’s and of course all of the other schools that attended and made the event such an exciting and well attended event. The schools which took part were: Lammack, Lower Darwen, Shadsworth, St Antony’s, St Barnabas & St Pauls, St Cuthbert’s, St James’ Lower Darwen, St Thomas’ and The Redeemer.
